Hearing aid as bioimplant?

In the world of hearing assistance devices, it's a small step from sticking a fragile, plastic thingy into your ear to having an outpatient surgery where you can dive into the surf without being worried about your batteries.

If, goodness knows I'd like to be able to afford it, I needed to use a device to assist my hearing, I would like to have a few options ...

"New! From AudioSport: It's invisible, it receives phone calls, it's a GPS system, it's wireless Internet access ... it's only $19.95! (plus the cost of surgery and $229.99/month 12-month Internet access contract)"

I dunno, but if a medical supplier started selling an added-value device, I might consider having one put in ... just for the convenience.
