problem:

2 people talking

- first says 'i love kids!'
- second says 'me, too. i want to adopt.'
- first says 'like, what?'
- second says 'you know ... like woody allen ... 18 and hot!'
- first says 'i want a ten year old boy.'

PROBLEM HERE: what does first mean? what does second mean?

cues from:
- body language
- facial expression
- vocal inflection
- cultural cross-reference
- actual personal historical knowledge
- - ever expressed before
- - made similar reference before
- assumed personal historical knowledge [factor: reliability]
- - suspicion
- - rumor
- - innuendo
- conversation context

- SPEAKER GENDER
- - this one's the real problem:
- - - does gender affect perception/reality, in this scene?

- - - first is man? first is woman?
- - - second is woman? second is man?

- - WHOSE BIASES ENTER THE ALGORITHM?

- - no biases? possible?

- - what about speaker race?

- - possible to rule out any effect, and still feel natural?
